How to Form a Group

There are four models for a Chai Mitzvah group:

  1. Organization based If you are forming a group from within an organization, think about who in your congregation would enjoy this experience: a particular age or stage of life? A mixed group? People who regularly attend Jewish learning opportunities, and would like to “kick it up a notch” and try something different? People who don’t usually attend Jewish learning opportunities, but may be attracted to the “do it yourself” part of the experience?
  2. CHAI@HOME: Affinity/Friendship group If you are forming a stand-alone group, think about who you know who likes the things you like. Are you in a book group? Maybe you can try something different this year. Are you in a professional group? Try the Business Ethics materials. Do you regularly get together with a group of friends? Is your family scattered around the country? You could learn together, “virtually” each month, and carry on with your own individual projects wherever you are. You can form a group to celebrate a special birthday, or lifecycle event, or in memory of someone.
  3. Monthly Virtual Group You can register for Chai Mitzvah’s Community Events and Virtual Sessions (Standard, Mussar, Aseret, or Rosh Chodesh). There is no cost to register, and you can attend as many as you like.
  4. Zoom Room Group: This is a new and very easy way to run your own Chai Mitzvah group. Get together a group of friends and have them register for one of Chai Mitzvah’s Virtual Sessions (Standard, Mussar, Aseret, or Rosh Chodesh). Name your group, and in the registration, fill in the name of your group. You will be put together when the larger group goes to breakout rooms. So you get the best of both worlds: you have a group with your friends, plus you enjoy the teaching of a Chai Mitzvah teacher. And, you also connect to the larger community!

As with everything else in Chai Mitzvah… get creative and have fun!
