Grandparents and Beyond

The Jewish Grandparents survey piqued the interest of the Chai Mitzvah team since so many of our participants are actually Jewish grandparents.

Surely the aspiration to pass on the love of Judaism that Jewish grandparents and others desire for the next generation is there, but while this study showed that Jewish grandparents are very involved with their grandchildren, little of this involvement is specifically Jewish. So Chai Mitzvah has created the Grandparents and Beyond curriculum. It contains our signature text-based conversations, as well as fun activities for engaging all ages. The materials are designed not just for grandparents, but for any older adults and younger friends – for example, grand nieces and nephews or family friends.

Activities are designed to be Zoom-friendly, as many grandparents are geographically separated from their grandchildren.

Subscription includes 12 sourcebooks, one for each month, filled with meaningful text-based conversations and fun activities to engage all ages. Chai Mitzvah also offers support especially for those doing it on their own through recorded monthly topic preview webinars including tips for how to enjoy the materials virtually.

There are three ways to participate in Grandparents and Beyond:

  1. On your own schedule with your youngsters (ages 5-18)
  2. As part of an adult group: Connect with other grandparents monthly, and then enjoy the activities with your grandchildren on your own schedule.
  3. As part of a school or youth group program: Students invite their grandparents or other older adults. Great intergenerational program, also good for Social Action!
