There are No One Way Streets

by Rabbi Deb Smith

This past week, I had the pleasure of attending a Jewish Journaling Group for the first time. The group is sponsored by The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, New Jersey.  This is a wonderful museum that I toured last summer. It features exhibits, photos, and memorabilia from throughout Jewish history and settlement in the state of New Jersey, where I live part of the year.

This was my first experience in such a writing group, and I had a wonderful time. The group has been ongoing for 10 years. We were given several different writing prompts throughout the hour and a half that we spent together. We responded to the prompts and then all shared our responses. For my blog today, I would like to share one of my responses to the writing prompt: “There are no one-way streets.”

There are no one-way streets.

Life is a holy covenant between each of us and one another. Or between each of us and many others.  Or between each of us and the planet. Or between each of us and God or some Higher Power.

As we give, so do we receive. As we teach, so do we learn. As we receive Life’s breath, so do we give Life back.

That is the beauty of being alive and being present.

We are never alone in the web of life.

The gift of Life is the breath of God.

Wishing you all blessings of Breath and Life.
